How to create Nth order Butterworth, Bessel and Linkwitz-Riley filters?
Low pass and High pass filters on WaveDymics are 2nd order biquad filters. You can set the filter type (Butterworth, Bessel, Chebyshev etc.) by adjusting Q factor value of the filter. If you would like to achieve Nth order filter (4th, 6th or 8th), you can enable desired N/2 number of the same 2nd order biquad filter. For example, you have to enable two 2nd order biquad filter to create a 4th order biquad filter.
Here you can find tables for Q factor values for desired filter types and orders, with example configurations at 100Hz.
| 2nd Order (12dB/Oct) | Butterworth | Bessel | Chebyshev |
| Q Filter 1 | 0.71 | 0.58 | 1.1 |
| 4th Order (24dB/Oct) | Butterworth | Bessel | Chebyshev |
| Q Filter 1 | 0.54 | 0.69 | 0.96 |
| Q Filter 2 | 1.31 | 0.31 | 1.7 |
| 6th Order (36dB/Oct) | Butterworth | Bessel | Chebyshev |
| Q Filter 1 | 0.52 | 0.8 | 0.92 |
| Q Filter 2 | 0.71 | 0.52 | 1.3 |
| Q Filter 3 | 1.93 | 0.27 | 2.6 |
| 8th Order (48dB/Oct) | Butterworth | Bessel | Chebyshev |
| Q Filter 1 | 0.51 | 0.86 | 0.92 |
| Q Filter 2 | 0.6 | 0.66 | 1 |
| Q Filter 3 | 0.9 | 0.47 | 1.6 |
